arabacoa
is one of the most prosperous municipalities in the
Dominican Republic. Founded nearly 150 years ago,
it has become the principal alternative mountain
tourist destination in the country and throughout
the Caribbean. Many of the leading agro-companies
call Jarabacoa home, and as a result many national
farmers have chosen Jarabacoa for similar large
project. There are many coffee plantations along
with factories to process the coffee. Jarabacoa
plays a large part in supplying domestic demand for
coffee. Not only does Jarabacoa deal in local
supply, but it also plays a role in exportation in
the area of floriculture. Exportation of the
“Israeli Stamp” has strengthened the socioeconomic
environment.
Urban expansion has increased more rapidly in recent
years; the area to the southwest of the downtown
area that once was occupied by Agrarian Reform
properties for Japanese-Dominican farms is now
becoming more populated.
The outstanding ecological and environmental
conditions in this valley have given Jarabacoa the
name “The City of Eternal Springtime.”
Jarabacoa is a charming town located over 500 meters
above sea level with latitudinal climate and the
Western Pine as it’s predominate vegetation. |
